Growing Healthy, High Yield Food – with Friends

Working with Nature

Permaculture is a method of working with nature to grow vegetables and plants in a sustainable way that supports ecosystem services. Services that are provided by nature for free such as oxygen provided from trees [7].

Food production is essential and so is increasing food security. Agricultural practises have been land intensive and eroded soils. There was a ‘green revolution’ when monoculture practices were implemented in the 1970’s. These were deemed a way to increase food production, especially in wheat [21]. Now, more farmers are considering a movement towards permaculture and away from harsh fertilisers, chemicals and intensive land practises [22]. This all contributes to soil health, and a healthy soil means healthy plants [19]
